New Year, New Lips in Plastic Surgery.

While the new year has you re-evaluating your diet and fitness, it’s also a good time to consider whether your cosmetic appearance is all it can be. If you weren’t blessed with a plump set of lips or simply lost volume due to aging, you can still feel confident about your lips – thanks to the extensive offering of facial fillers designed specifically for thin lips.

The Popular Pout

If you’re searching for the perfect way to plump up, you’re not alone. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than 27,000 lip procedures took place in the United States in one year. Proof positive of their popularity, statistics also show that lip augmentations increased 43 percent since the year 2000.

Lip Filler Types

Juvederm

Administered using an ultra-fine needle, Juvederm® is a crystal-clear hyaluronic acid gel that is injected into and around a patient’s lips. It is used to augment lip size, as well as improve the appearance of lines that form above and around them, such as smoker’s lines.

Allergan, the company behind the Juvederm collection, offers several options for those looking to enhance their pout. Juvederm Ultra® is an injective gel that your physician can use to add temporary fullness and volume to facial tissue. If dispensed correctly, it has the potential to last up to an entire year – so you may only have to visit your doctor once a year.

Juvederm Volbella®, the company’s other lip filler option, received the Allure® Best of Beauty Breakthrough Award in 2017 – the little red stamp-of-approval signifying something is a “holy grail” product to many beauty lovers.

Restylane

Another option offered by doctors for lip plumping is the Restylane® family of fillers, including Restylane Silk. The very first FDA-approved treatment for lip augmentation, Restylane Silk is touted for its miniscule hyaluronic acid particles, which offer a completely natural look, and are excellent for smoothing out unwanted lip lines. Restylane results start wearing off after about 10 months, but it tends to be the thriftier option compared to other available fillers.

The Process

Some lip fillers (such as Restylane Silk) contain added lidocaine to reduce any discomfort from the injection process; however, you may experience some swelling and redness following your treatment. For this reason, it’s best to plan ahead and schedule any important appointments in advance of that upcoming party or date.
