Arm Lift

An arm lift (brachioplasty) makes the upper arm appear firmer and toner by removing fat and sagging skin. If you have loose hanging skin from the back side of your upper arm, despite exercising and maintaining a healthy weight, this cosmetic surgery procedure just might be the optimal solution for you.

What is an arm lift?

During an arm lift procedure at Iorio Plastic Surgery & Medspa, Dr. Louis Iorio will reshape the under part of the upper arm and then remove excess skin and fat to tighten the tissues, resulting in a more toned look.

What are the benefits of an arm lift?

An arm lift will remove fat and/or sagging skin under the upper arm (between the armpit and elbow), resulting in a firmer and more toned appearance.

Bariatric surgery patients who have lost a significant amount of weight and now have loose skin can particularly benefit from an arm lift to help tighten and define the upper arm.

How is an arm lift performed?

During an arm lift, Dr. Iorio will make an incision somewhere between your elbow and your armpit, either on the inside of the arm or the back of the arm. The length of the incision and pattern used is dependent on the amount and location of the excess skin that is then removed. If necessary, excess fat may be excised or removed with liposuction.

Dr. Iorio will use internal sutures to reshape and tighten the underlying supportive tissue, and then close the incision making a new contour of your arm. Sometimes temporary drainage tubes will be placed under the skin to prevent fluids from collecting there.

At the end of the arm lift, your upper arm will be bandaged and may be wrapped in a compression garment to help limit any swelling.

What happens after an arm lift?

Following an arm lift, you may have some bruising and swelling. We will give you specific instructions on caring for your arms after the procedure, including avoiding too much motion or force with your arms. Once the swelling subsides, you will notice more toned arms. To maintain your new look, be sure to keep up a healthy lifestyle, including exercise and diet.
